About
Burgundy
In this section of the site we are including
information about various places in Burgundy split down into the 4
regions. In addition to these four parts we have included a specific
section on the Morvan National Park.
The four regions of Burgundy are;
Yonne (department 89) – the North West corner
Côte d’Or (department 21) – the North East corner
Nièvre (department 58) – the South West corner
Saône-et-Loire (department 71) – the South East
corner
The Morvan – straddles all four regions very
roughly in the centre
All four regions of Burgundy have much to offer the
tourist irrespective of the type of holiday you are looking for. Around
the world the Côte d’Or is probably the most well known of the regions
largely because of the wines produced in that region however, whilst the
Côte d’Or has a great deal to offer, the discerning tourist would miss a
lot if only visiting that particular region, and not only in things to
do and see but also in seeking out some of the lesser known wines,
lesser known but many are none the less exceptional.
On our sister site
www.burgundyholidayrentals.com we have included sections on
the history of Burgundy, wine and food and a fictitious week long
holiday, so we don’t intend to repeat what we have done there, pop over
and have a look. Here in Hotels in Burgundy we have concentrated more on
the individual cities, towns and villages that make up this wonderfully
diverse region of France.
We hope that, by passing on our own knowledge and
additional information we have found in our research, we help you to
plan your holiday and add to the experience of Burgundy.
For the purposes
of this brief guide we will start generally in the north of each region
and work our way south under the sub-headings of the individual towns.
There may be some cross over however as historically some towns were
dependent on others for their growth or even their existence, La
Charite-sur-Loire for example which was influenced heavily by the church
in Cluny way to the east in department 71, Saône et Loire.
